Why do you care so much about stories?

I was thinking about this just this morning and fiction gives us all sometime infanitly more interesting to talk about. It gives us common ground. "Do you like Doctor Who?" "yes" "Hey so do I?"

But it also is a way of really getting to know someone even if they aren't real. You can't really know strangers like that and it takes alot of work to know friends and family like that. Its a way of oberving intersting and engaging behaviour without having to be part of the behaviour. I mean you can obsess over a really great couple but you don't have all the problems with being in a couple.

And if the writers are good it gives you someone you can relate to and admire or respect or both. They can give you confidence that something like that could happen to you. I mean sure rationally we know its all acting but emotionally we can get very attated cause our emotions can't tell its acting like out minds can. Its all very facinating!
